The primary school teacher of the year award recognised a teacher who inspires and engages students to fulfil their potential and makes an exceptional contribution to the life of their school. 

Sally Hughes, a teacher at Holt CP Primary school, was awarded the primary school teacher of the year in this years awards.

Mrs Hughes is a teacher that one parent describes as “simply the best, superhuman and utterly special who deserves recognition for doing such a wonderful job, as a parent you could not ask anymore”.

The 40-year-old has been teaching for around 18 years and teaches year three and four.

Speaking on her win Mrs Hughes said: “I am totally shocked and overwhelmed to have won the award, never for a moment did I think I would win.

“I feel extremely privileged to do the job I do and Holt CP is such a special place to work!

"Without the hard work and dedication of the staff around me, our supportive governors, wonderful families and simply amazing children I wouldn't be able to do the job I do.

Other talented runners up for this category were Huw Ellis, who is described as an approachable and supportive teacher, and Liz Croft, an inspiring and dynamic teacher who ensures all learners needs are met. 

The award was presented by Matt Lewis, the Head of Recruitment at Educate Group.
