Justin Espie, prosecuting, told the court the defendant was stopped by police after he was seen driving at "excessive speed."
Officers noted the smell of cannabis and asked him to undertake a drug swipe.
The test was positive for cannabis. He later provided an evidential reading of 6.4 microgrammes of the substance per litre of blood - the limit being 2.
Catherine Jagger, defending, told the court: "He was on his way to work, not coming home from a night out.
"He has lost that job but has secured alternative employment.
