A WREXHAM man has lost his licence after a routine stop led police to discover he was more than two times the drug-drive limit.

Liam Griffiths, of Welch Way, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old admitted that on December 17 at Gwersyllt, he drove a Ford Transit on Mold Road otherwise than in accordance with a licence, without insurance and whilst over the drug-drive limit for cannabis.

Justin Espie, prosecuting, told the court that at around 5pm, officers on patrol stopped the defendant's vehicle and confirmed he had no valid documentation.

A positive drugs swipe followed - with Griffiths testing 5.3 microgrammes of cannabis per litre of blood; the limit being 2.

Andy Holliday, defending, told the court that the stop had been routine, and his client had cooperated in providing blood for analysis.

He added the defendant had since lost his job as a groundworker.

Griffiths received a three-year driving ban and an £80 fine, as well as being ordered to pay £85 costs and a £32 victim surcharge.
