THE HOME Office has commented on plans to accomodate asylum seekers at a Flintshire hotel.
The Leader reported on Thursday that Payman 3 Holdings Ltd intends to apply to accomodate 400 single male asylum seekers at the Northop Country House Hotel, otherwise known as Chequers.
Delyn MP Rob Roberts, and local councillors, have slammed the proposal for the 37-bedroom hotel in Northop Hall from progressing.
And the Home Office has now commented on the matter.
A spokesperson for it said: “The number of people arriving in the UK who require accommodation has reached record levels and has put our asylum system under incredible strain.
“We engage with local authorities as early as possible whenever sites are used for asylum accommodation and work to ensure arrangements are safe for hotel residents and local people.”

Payman 3 Holdings Ltd said the scheme to accomodate asylum seekers would last seven years, at the end of which it will resume life as a working hotel.
Approximately 250 people would be accommodated in the modular temporary units which would be removed from site at the end of the period. Some 150 would be accommodated within the existing building. Use of the site as a hotel would resume at the end of the temporary permission.
Northop Hall is home to roughly 1,500 people - meaning its population could rise by over a quarter.
Clearsprings Ready Homes would deliver people in coaches, minibuses and dedicated vehicles.
