A NORTH Wales swimming club is making a splash as it goes from strength to strength.

Nofio Clwyd is a competitive swimming performance centre based in Flintshire. Established 10 years ago, new head coach Craig Breeze, appointed in August last year, is proud of their achievements and keen to raise their profile in the hopes of attracting even more talented swimmers.

Craig, whose predecessor has progressed onto a role within British Swimming, said: "We're always on the look out for new members, those of a reasonable standard that are looking to take swimming quite seriously.

"It is a big commitment, 18 hours a week, but we're there for those who want to take their swimming further. But there is also a clear and potential pathway open for growth onto GB squads in the future too.

"We had a really productive winter championships in Swansea, with some excellent attitudes and mentality on show, and some excellent performances, resulting in several personal pests, qualifications for finals - some for the first time - and medals, which is an excellent achievement."

Craig stresses Nofio Clwyd is there for everyone, adding: "We have inclusivity where para athletes are concerned and this is an area that we would like to grow.

"The swimmers are out there and have fantastic opportunities to realise dreams at Paralympics etc. We have a para athlete who has just broken the Senior British para record for 200m individual medley at 15-years-old."

Members, which can start from about 11-years-old, have praised the club's team spirit and one team swimmer said: "Nofio Clwyd has pushed me to be the greatest version of myself both in and out of the pool. Being there has taught me lessons that can be used for the rest of my life."

But the support isn't just about what happens in the pool, which is based at Cambrian Aquatics in Deeside. Craig said: "We are open and always seeking the right athletes to be part of our journey, as much as we want to be part of theirs.

"My coaching ethos is to learn and grow personally, holistic approach to athlete development, not just about swimming, to lead by example.

"We want to be there for athletes with the right mentality to put the work in, attitude and willingness to learn, grow and fit within our programme. If development, growth and high level opportunity is what you crave, then our swim programme could be for you."
