FOR many parents across Wrexham and Flintshire, the last few days will have been a blur.
Between St David's Day and World Book Day, mums, dads and grandparents will have had their creativity put to the test.
Here we focus on the annual event of World Book Day, sharing some of the photos sent to the Leader by readers and schools.
More photos will also appear in Wednesday's edition of the Leader.
Ysgol Derwenfa, Leeswood
Pupils and staff were treated to a visit from author, poet, illustrator and animator Lorna Gibson to celebrate World Book Day.
Lorna, of Toots Design, shared her beautiful animation and tale of Mr Bear & Mouse, and spoke to the children about how she created the animation using a £5 app, her iPhone and characters she made from needle felt.
She first released her animation of Mr Bear's Christmas last December and was extremely lucky to have actor Stephen Fry narrate the story and it being aired on BBC iPlayer and CBeebies.
Lorna has written and illustrated a number of books and is keen to share them with schools, especially her beautiful book, Love Never Dies, which addresses grief and loss. Children and staff were truly inspired by her work and loved hearing how she created this using a stop motion app. Lorna spent the morning answering the questions from children and even created a short animation with Mr Bear with Year 5 and 6 children.
She said: "What a treat to share world book day with Ysgol Derwenfa and to meet all the children and hear their wonderful questions about creating my books and films.
"As a self-taught author, illustrator and animator it was a joy to share that this career path evolved for me without any prior experience or qualifications. That it developed through time spent creating and learning new things which brought me joy, also hoping that by sharing my work with others, it could make the world a little brighter.
"I would love for my books to leave the readers feeling a sense of comfort and love through the stories and a celebration of the magic of the everyday."
Headteacher Andrew Jones said: "It was a pleasure to invite Lorna in, she certainly inspired the children to follow their dreams and how a love of drawing and reading can lead to creating animations.
"Hopefully some of our children will go onto careers in writing, journalism and animation by using their digital and literacy skills.
"We wish Lorna the very best of luck for the future and can't wait for the animation of Mr Bear's Day Out to be released later this year!"
Rhys and Shannon, from New Directions, also visited as they sponsored the school's creative art competition, where children decorated and transformed a toilet roll tube into a book character.
They gifted the winners of each year group with a £15 book voucher. Bella Riley from Year 3, scooped the prize for best dressed.
Children were also given a free book from the Book Council for Wales and a bookmark, plus information on how to nurture a love of reading in school and at home.
Ysgol Mynydd Isa
It was a very busy week at the Flintshire primary school, as pupils and their families came together to celebrate World Book Day and the Welsh language.
Family members of pupils in reception, and Year 1 and 2 attended craft sessions throughout the week and created book characters using paper plates. During the sessions, pupils were encouraged to use Welsh oracy skills alongside their family members and demonstrate the ‘patrwm y pythefnos’ (pattern of the fortnight) that they have been learning in class.
Pupils even performed some very energetic Welsh songs they have learnt for the school eisteddfod, including Afal, Oren… Banana.
Emma Curtis, deputy headteacher, said: "The family craft sessions have been an enjoyable and relaxed way of welcoming our families into school, whilst allowing the children to practise their Welsh oracy skills to a wider audience.
"We believe it is vitally important to master Welsh pronunciation and expression at a young age in order to gain confidence in using the Welsh language. And what better way than to do this than with their family members in school!’
Busy Bees Playgroup, Flint
Youngsters at the playgroup had a day of dressing up as their favourite characters from their favourite books for this year's World Book Day.
They enjoyed puppet and story sacks time, read stories in Welsh and English with a little help from Welsh bear Ticw.
Some children used the laptop to follow stories and make up their own ending, making up happy, sad and funny giggly stories.
Busy Bees also gave each child a book to take home and keep, and read with mum, dad or grandparents.
