POLICE have launched an investigation after cars parked by Wrexham AFC fans were broken into while they attended Tuesday night's game.

The break-ins occurred during the Reds' clash with Chesterfield at the Racecourse - with up to three vehicles targeted.

Supporters whose cars were targeted took to the Red Passion fans' messageboard group to warn others.

One person said the damage to their window is valued at £175, and another said roughly £500 worth of damage was caused.

Inspector Luke Hughes, of the Wrexham City policing team, said: "At around 10pm on Tuesday (February 28), we received the first of two reports in relation to parked vehicles being damaged and having items stolen from within, on Stansty Road.

“It appears that up to three vehicles had been targeted, the windows broken and items such as dash cam taken."

He added: “I can absolutely understand the frustrations of anyone targeted in this way. Returning to a vehicle and finding out that considerable damage and inconvenience had been caused must have been distressing to the occupant.

"Two of the three vehicles will be examined by our CSI department in the hope of recovering forensic evidence and our Neighbourhood Policing Team have been asked to look at CCTV opportunities, however the location where these vehicles were parked is dark and sadly ideal for anyone with any malicious intent.
