A woman born on a leap year has celebrated her 107th birthday after recovering from Covid only two weeks ago. 

Ilyd Jones was born on February 29, 1916 - a leap year.

There have only been 27 February 29th's in that time, so this year friends decided to mark the occasion on the 28th.

She was born in Denbighshire, however has lived in Flintshire for most of her adult life.

Mrs Jones is well-known in the local area and many still remember the garage she owned.

Having recovered from Covid only two weeks ago, Mrs Jones believes the key to a long life is a glass of sherry and regularly eating honey.

Mrs Jones is currently residing at the Marleyfield House in Buckley and is the oldest resident. 

She has been receiving royal cards from the Queen since her 100th birthday in 2016, however this year was her first time receiving a card from King Charles. 

Ilyd said: "I feel lucky to have seen both a Queen and King."

When asked what her favourite birthday she has celebrated is, she replied: "Next year might be my favourite."

Several of her family and friends joined her in her birthday celebrations along with staff and other residents. 

Ilyd was also paid a visit from the Mayor of Buckley Town Council who wished her a very special birthday.

Her friends said that she is an amazing woman, with one friend, who chose to remain anonymous, saying "She'll outlive us all."

Ilyd is believed to be the oldest woman in Flintshire.
