THE OWNER of a much-loved Wrexham venue says he has been left feeling 'overwhelmed' by people's messages of support on its tenth anniversary.

The Rock and Soul Suite on Hill Street first opened in February 2013.

The business is run by Carl Blythen and Julie Ellis - who will become Blythen herself when the couple tie the knot next week on March 10.

Down the years, Rock and Soul has featured many great live bands and top tribute acts plus its DJ's who entertain guests with the very best of classic soul, motown, northern soul, funk and classic disco.

This month, Carl and Julie are celebrating a decade of the venue and a post on the Rock and Soul Suite page got people sharing their memories with the owners.

That level of support left Carl feeling 'overwhelmed' as he reflected on the last 10 years in Wrexham.

Speaking to the Leader, he said: "Some things in Wrexham never change over the years, people still love a good night out!

"It's overwhelming and quite touching (to see the support). We are so appreciative and extremely lucky to have met so many lovely people over the years and lots of them are now really good friends.

"It has been an honour for us to have entertained tens of thousands of people for the past ten years."

Asked about what his favourite memories from the last decade have been, Carl added: "There's too many to mention and a lot we just couldn't mention! We have been responsible for quite a few marriages where people have first met at soul suite and gone on to marry.

"We have also had a lot of going down on bended knee to propose - that is an honour for us to have been a part of."

Talking about what's to come in future for Rock and Soul, he said: "We want to keep adding as much quality to our venue as we possibly can even after ten years whether it be in the building, entertainment, security, food or service.

"We will never sit back and become complacent or take for granted the support we receive from the people of Wrexham and the visitors we receive from around the country.

"Times are tough at the moment for everyone but we wanted to be pro active and positive to give something back to help people enjoy a night out in Wrexham town centre by presenting Tribute acts on a Saturday night with free entry and it is proving to be very popular."
