A FLINTSHIRE pub has reopened after undergoing a major revamp.

The Red Lion, in Mold, is back open after a two-week closure for a refurbishment.

It reopened last Friday night - with the refurbishment completed just 10 minutes before the 6.30pm opening.

Maxine Williams, pub landlady, said: "I'm so happy it's had the refurb, it really was overdue. Marstons (brewery), myself and my team have worked really hard to make the pub nice for the local community.

"It has had its traditional feel maintained but looks really smart now - we're so proud of how it looks now."

Maxine said the pub has always had a loyal customer base, but she has noticed a lot of new faces this week.

"That's lovely to see," she said.

"Sadly The Red Lion has received negativity from some - wrongly labelled as a pub 'full of kids'. Our midweek customer base has always been older people, however our Friday nights have been predominantly a younger crowd."

While Maxine said most of the young customers are "respectful and decent", she has decided to make Saturday nights strictly for over 25s.

From March, the pub will be serving food - a snack menu on Tuesday to Saturday and a full roast on Sundays.

Maxine added: "The pub is also dog friendly on the bar side and we do have a good sized beer garden for a town pub."

Some of the new features include draught products, an undercover area, jukebox, dartboard and TVs - showing live sport.

Maxine said: "It's a great friendly pub and now it looks gorgeous, too. I have a great team of staff who welcome everyone with no discrimination. I really hope everyone starts to show it some love again."
