A MULTI-USE games area (MUGA) in the Wrexham area has been vandalised once more, leaving a community council 'disheartened'.

The site located on Plas Kynaston Lane in Cefn Mawr has been targeted by vandals on a number of occasions over the past year.

In June 2022, smashed glass and litter was strewn across the facility, despite being closed for re-surfacing work which cost around £24,000.

Then, in August 2022, it fell victim to further vandalism, including graffiti being spray-painted onto the astroturf.

That - coupled with the latest damage done to the site just this week - has led Cefn Community Council to consider keeping it locked at weekends.

The council says that the latest incident saw E-scooters being ridden inside the MUGA, damaging the floor surface.

A statement added that CCTV is 'not acting as a deterrent' and that the area is 'repeatedly being damaged'.

The council says that if the vandalism continues, then they will be locking the facility from 4pm on weekdays, meaning it will also be closed over the weekends.

Vice chair of the community council, Cllr Derek Wright said: "This mindless vandalism is disheartening considering the time, money and effort that has been spent upgrading the facilities for the youth of our communities.

"If there are further incidents, we will have no option but to lock the facility."

Cefn Community Council says it will be informing its local PCSO to keep an eye on the area in coming weeks.
