A DEDICATED fundraiser and cancer survivor from Corwen has set her latest challenge - to tackle the tricky Crib Goch.

It is now eight years since fearless Ali Alcock was diagnosed with cervical cancer and went on to endure a five-month battle.

Every year since then, the social worker has set out on a mission and collected over £60,000 for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity which had her back throughout her journey.

Ali's fundraising efforts throughout 2022 saw her raise over £21,000 for the charity and she was spurred on further by the death of her beloved cousin, Mark 'Weeksy' Weeks, of Johnstown, who lost his battle with a terminal brain tumour in September 2021.

Now, the 45-year-old has set her latest challenge to help raise money for Macmillan.

On June 26, weather permitting, Ali will be tackling the terrifying Crib Goch part of Snowdonia.

Translated into 'Red Ridge' in English, it is described as a "knife-edged" arête with its highest point being 923 metres above sea level.

Ahead of the challenge, Ali said: "I’m doing this to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support due to having first hand experience of their invaluable services and support and also in loving memory of my amazing cousin Mark.

"Mark loved going up into the mountains, he was an avid hiker - the harder the climb the better so I thought this was a fitting tribute to him. I’m also very fortunate to be having support and training from his mountain brothers."

The Leader:

PIC: Ali Alcock with Richard Carr, Dean Cotton, Rhodri Jones and Steve Lawley who are helping her prepare for the Crib Goch challenge.

Ali added: "A group of his close friends who would be up on the mountains with him are helping me train and prep/ I have had my first introduction to scrambling/ridge walking and it was a true reality check for me.

"This is the toughest challenge I have taken on to date both mentally and physically - my fear of heights is an issue but I know I couldn’t be in safer hands.

"My determination will hopefully see me through as failure is not an option. I want to do Mark and the lads proud and in the process hopefully raise a good amount for Macmillan."

As mentioned before, Ali's fundraising efforts over the years to give back to those who helped her have been nothing short of sensational.

She has completed a hike up Snowdon, a 'wing walk' and even a skydive among many other things during her amazing fundraising efforts to date.
