The Wrexham NEU District Secretary has expressed disappointment in the "upsetting" offer proposed by Welsh Government.

Teachers in Wales are set to strike again on March 2 after a renewed pay offer from Welsh Government was rejected.

Hundreds of teachers across Wales and the rest of the UK walked out on February 1 after rejecting an initial 5% pay offer.

The revised offer from the Welsh Government, which came on February 8, would see teachers get an extra 1.5% on top of the 5% already offered - and a further 1.5% as a one off payment.

A similar offer has also been rejected by ambulance workers who are members of the Unite union.

Dean Brown, Wrexham NEU District Secretary, said: "We do appreciate that the Welsh Government have been prepared to negotiate with NEU Cymru, which is in stark contrast to the Westminster Government, but their offer falls significantly short of the expectations and needs of our members.

"If we are to address the post Covid needs of the pupils in Wales, we need the ability to recruit and retain support staff. The failure of the Government to offer any uplift at all in their pay is quite upsetting. We can not consider any offer that excludes them from the settlement.

"We do have a clear mandate for strike action that is now rescheduled for 2 March in schools across Wales

"However, NEU Cymru are committed to seeking a resolution to this dispute on behalf of teacher and support staff members employed across Wales. Our demands have been clear, and we will meet with the Minister and his officials as often as necessary in order to seek to secure a deal that will resolve all issues."
