Tutankhamen's tomb
On February 22, it was 100 years since Howard Carter and Lord Caernarfon opened King Tutankhamen's tomb in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. Although the smallest tomb in the valley, it is the most famous because it is the only near intact tomb found and because it contained more than 5,000 precious grave goods. How King Tutankhamen died has been a much debated subject in archaeological circles. James Patterson, better known for his thriller novels, re-opens the case in The Murder of King Tut to cast light on one of the oldest mysteries of all. The Story of Egypt by Joann Fletcher tells the story of the world's greatest civilisation and spans more than 4,000 years of history. Of the many novels set in ancient Egypt the first in Wilbur Smith's Egyptian series, The New Kingdom, tells the adventurous story of ruler-in-waiting Hui. Come along to Wrexham Library where all of these titles and more are available for loan.

Ruabon Library's February Exhibition
A Stitch in Time is a collection of embroidery pieces created by local Ruabon resident and artist, Ennys Hughes. Having first been introduced to needlework and cross-stitch as a child in school in the 1950s, making gingham skirts and cookery aprons, Ennys says it was not until later in life that she discovered her true love for the craft. Ennys produced both traditional and "creative" embroidery, completing a City and Guilds course in Chester in the 1980s where she learned both hand and machine embroidery. Ennys has made many embroidered samples over the years, from kits, books, magazines, and many of her own original pieces. This intricate, stunning and striking collection is on display in Ruabon Library until the end of the month.
Poetry workshops
Did you know Wrexham Libraries are running a special poetry competition for children aged 11 and under? The theme for the competition is protecting the planet and there are some great prizes up for grabs. The winners will be presented with their prizes by best-selling environmental author Sophie Pavelle, who has written for BBC Wildlife and Countryfile to name a few. To help inspire children, Wrexham Library will be running a poetry workshop on Wednesday, February 22, from 1pm-2.30pm. This workshop is free of charge but booking is essential.
