RESIDENTS have slammed "unbelievable" levels of fly-tipping in Deeside.

Earlier this week, shocking photos emerged on Facebook of rubbish dumped in an alleyway between Church Street and Dee View Road in Connah's Quay.

Mattresses and black bags of rubbish were among the items dumped.

The Leader:

Residents have been left angered by the fly-tipping, describing it as "disgusting" and "unbelievable".

One person said: "It is time these people faced consequences for their actions or it will never stop. They obviously have no respect."

Another added: "This is a minority of people dragging the area down."

Connah's Quay councillor, Bernie Attridge, said: "Fly tipping is getting worse in our town this is due to people not recycling and putting everything in a black bin bag.

"Some people aren't recycling food waste, it's all ending up in black bugs. We have rats going through these bags of rubbish - with streets becoming infested. It's a real concern."

Fellow Connah's Quay councillor, Dave Richardson, added: "It disgusts me, nobody should have to live with that around them, the dog muck is off the scale yet again."

Flintshire County Council’s chief officer for Streetscene and transportation, Katie Wilby, said: “Fly-tipping is never acceptable and is a criminal activity that can cause serious pollution to the environment, can be a risk to human health and can harm wildlife and farm animals, as well as needlessly diverting essential teams away from the frontline operation of waste collections.

"Flintshire County Council has been made aware of further fly tipping that has taken place in the Connah’s Quay area. Our Environmental Enforcement team have been in attendance to begin a formal investigation into the incident and the fly tipped material is in the process of being cleared away.

"Where a perpetrator can be identified and the fly tipping has taken place on council land, we have the powers to issue a Fixed Penalty Notice (for small scale fly tipping) or to progress a case for prosecution in court (for large scale fly tipping or repeat offenders) to ensure accountability."

Flintshire Council said as a preventative measure, it utilises CCTV cameras in known fly tip hotspot areas and is working jointly with the local elected members to resolve the issues of fly tipping in the Connah's Quay area.
