THE weather was a hot topic in 2022, with the UK recording some record-breaking temperatures.

For many of us, all we'll have to remember it is a selfie of our sunburn or a very patchy lawn.

But one Flintshire woman has a far more creative and long-lasting record of the year.

Jayne Arrowsmith, from Buckley, produced a temperature blanket, crocheting one line every day to correspond with the temperature taken at 2pm.

With a different colour for each temperature range, the finished kingsize blanket of 365 rows, bordered in the hottest and coldest colours, is a beautiful keepsake of the year.

2022 also saw the mum-of-two turn 60 in August, with Jayne adding glitter to the month's record of colours for added sentimental sparkle.

Jayne, a Slimming World group leader in Mold for almost 22 years, said: "Each row was taking about 30 minutes, and it never got boring.

"I crochet lots, and did many during lockdown. I hate to sit still, I can't just watch telly.

"With crafts, you're never stuck for something to do. My mum used to teach handicrafts, so if there was something me or my sister wanted, she'd say 'no, make it'."

Crafty Jayne isn't done there. She has a shawl in the making to take on a 30th wedding anniversary cruise with husband Gwyn, and her creative take on 2023 already underway.

She is crocheting an adorable 'gonk' (a mix of gnome and hobgoblin) for each month, with January's blue and grey character just waiting for the addition of a few snowflakes.

With Valentine's and Easter Bunny gonks to come, it's going to be another colourful year, whatever the weather.
