STUDENTS interested in one day pursuing a career in sport and exercise, are invited to attend a discovery day this month at Wrexham Glyndwr University.

Taking place on Wednesday, February 8, the Sport and Exercise Sciences Discovery Day is aimed at students currently in years 11-13 studying GCSE, BTEC or A Level PE/Sport. The event will be held from 9.30am-2.30pm, with a short lunch break.

Local schools and colleges are being encouraged to book onto the day, to give their students an opportunity to view what's on offer for students looking to study Sport and Exercise Sciences at Wrexham Glyndwr University.

As part of the day, students will have the chance to participate in a variety of activities enabling them to experience a taste of what it is like to study at university.

A range of 40-minute sessions will be delivered on campus by members of the university's Sport and Exercise Sciences team. Each group will participate in four out of the following sessions:

• Performance psychology interventions utilised in elite sport

• Physiological testing methods

• Strength and conditioning

• Football coaching

• Sport injury and rehabilitation

Chris Hughes, senior lecturer in football and coaching science at the university, said: "If a career in sports and exercise is something that appeals to you, please come along to our upcoming Sport and Exercise Sciences Discovery Day.

"The day will provide a fantastic opportunity for students to take part in a number of activities, meet lecturers and ask any questions you might have, as well as get a flavour of what university life is like.

"We've had some fabulous feedback from those who have come along to our previous events of this kind. We would love to show you what we have on offer for prospective Sport and Exercise Sciences students here at Wrexham Glyndwr University."

Dr Sarah Dubberley, principal lead within the department said: "This is an excellent opportunity for students to come on to campus and truly experience, first-hand the opportunities which exist within the wider sports department.

"Students will be participating in practical sessions which directly link to the undergraduate programmes on offer which include FdSc Coaching Sport and Fitness; BSc Football Coaching and the Performance Specialist and BSc Applied Sport and Exercise Sciences."
