NIGHTINGALE House Hospice has relaunched and rebranded their Day Services Unit to the Nightingale Wellbeing Centre.

This will complement a new programme centred around holistic patient care developed by the clinical and medical team to complement ongoing services.

Prioritising patient wellbeing is incredibly important to the independent hospice. Carolyn James, the newly appointed day services lead, explained why the new programme has been developed.

She said: "The service formerly known as Day Services will be renamed to the Nightingale Wellbeing Centre to better reflect the type of support that we offer to patients who have a life-limiting illness. We have had fantastic feedback already, with patients coming from all across our catchment area, which covers a vast area of Wrexham, Flintshire, the Border towns of Oswestry and Whitchurch and all the way to Barmouth."

Carolyn added: "There was an opportunity to redevelop and design a new 12-week programme to optimise patients' quality of life, enabling them to live well with their diagnosis by offering therapeutic care, as well as a range of activities to support patients and carers."

The 12-week programme combines various patient services provided by the hospice, ensuring this vital support is more accessible. The programme's activities range from ways to manage breathlessness, support with mobility, and exercise classes to mindfulness sessions, focusing on the patient's mental wellbeing.

Mandy Cunningham, director of clinical services, discussed the importance of the Wellbeing programme. They said: "We're very excited to launch our new Wellbeing Programme for Outpatients at Nightingale House Hospice."

The programme also includes therapy dogs visiting the patients, a range of crafts and education about finances and benefits. All with the aim of supporting patients through their diagnosis.

Mandy added: "All of the clinical departments have come together to create a programme that offers patients emotional, physical and spiritual support whilst assisting with their medical needs and helping them to prepare for their futures.

"We have also received valuable feedback from patients and volunteers, which has helped shape. the new programme, ensuring we are meeting the growing needs of our community."

Patients will not only benefit from the activities on the programme, but they will get to know others who attend the sessions, building companionship with people in similar situations to themselves.

Other services, such as outpatient appointments, complementary therapy, and rehabilitation, will run alongside the Wellbeing Program, as usual, to provide ongoing support to patients and their families.
