THE demolition of the former Kop at the Racecourse is now fully underway and Wrexham AFC has shared some pictures of how the process is looking.

Plans to pull apart the old Kop to re-develop the new one were given the go ahead by Wrexham Council's planning committee back in November 2022.

Work on demolishing the original Kop began in December as part of a re-development which will raise the Racecourse's capacity from 10,000 to 15,500.

Before the club was purchased by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in 2021, fans had long dreamed of a new stand to replace the current Kop which has been derelict for almost 15 years.

Now, that dream is slowly but surely becoming a reality.

Supporters have recently been sending in their best memories from the Kop to us as the club looks forward to what will no doubt be an exciting future ahead under its star owners.

And the club has this week shared further pictures of how the demolition process currently looks.

The removal of the external structure of the old stand was completed last weekend (January 14/15).

A statement from Wrexham AFC read: "Contractors PP O’Connor have now turned their attention to the removal of the concrete, and are due to shortly start excavation of the earth mound behind/below the terrace.

"During this work, they have exposed a large reinforced concrete foundation of the old stand, with supporters who visited the stadium this week having no doubt heard the breaking-out work of the hydraulic hammer."

The club also stated that it is now "time for Plan B" for the Kop re-development after missing out on UK Government Levelling Up funding last week.

The club added that it was "disappointed" to learn that Wrexham Council’s application for financial support for the Kop Development had been rejected.

The financial support would have come in the form of the Wrexham Gateway Project - which would see the regeneration of the area around the Racecourse and Wrexham General train station.

After securing £25 million in Welsh Government funds for the regeneration of the area around the train station, Wrexham Council had hoped to land UK Government Levelling Up funding for the western side of the project - which is the Kop stand football ground redevelopment.

That includes groundworks for a hotel, potential conference facilities and also car parking.
