THERE is a host of classical events coming to Flintshire and Wrexham this year.
Theatr Clwyd have always provided incredible shows and are continuing to do so throughout 2023.
First to visit the Mold venue is Pavel Kolesnikov (Feb 7). Honens International Piano Competition and Critics' Circle Young Talent winner, Pavel Kolesnikov is one of the world's most sought after pianists. He has performed at the most prestigious venues and was Artist in Residence at Wigmore Hall. The programme will include Schubert, Franz: Four Impromptus D899 and Schumann, Robert: Kreisleriana, Op. 16.
Joining forces for an incredible evening is Abel Selaocoe and Sinfonia Cymru (Feb 17). South African cellist Abel Selaocoe has performed extensively with top national and international ensembles, including BBC Concert Orchestra, Manchester Collective and Britten Sinfonia. He made his BBC Proms solo debut in 2021. Expect Abel's own African-inspired music, Tabakova's Cello Concerto and exhilarating improvisations by Abel's trio - Chesaba.

And finally, Carducci String Quartet (March 8). The acclaimed quartet has won some of classical music's biggest awards including Concert Artists Guild International Competition, Kuhmo International Chamber Music Competition and a Royal Philharmonic Society Award. The evening will feature Haydn, J: String Quartet in Bb major, Op.76, No.4 'Sunrise', Mendelssohn, F: String Quartet No.6 in F minor, Op.80, Beethoven, L: String Quartet No.8 in E minor, Op.59, No.2.
Classical events continue over at Wrexham's William Aston Hall's resident orchestra, Wrexham Symphony Orchestra. The WSO has grown to its present day membership numbering more than 60 players and regularly attracts professional guest conductors and outstanding soloists. WSO will explore Myths and Legends (Feb 26). From King Arthur's seat in Tintagel to the Hall of the Mountain King in the fjords of Norway, conductor Jonathan Small (RLPO) will guide us through a selection of works depicting ancient myths and legends from Wales, Scotland, Scandinavia and Czechoslovakia.
In May Pianist Teleri-Siȃn joins WSO to perform the greatest major piano work of the 20th century, Gershwin and Rachmaninoff (May 6). Piano Concerto in F major is heavily influenced by the jazz genre which will take you right back to the New York of the Jazz Age. It is accompanied by Rachmaninoff's Symphony no.3.
And finally, conductor Richard Howarth leads WSO for an evening of Music for a Summer's Evening (July 15), featuring Delius' 'A Walk to the Paradise Garden' and Dvořák's wonderful Symphony no.6 alongside Korngold's Violin Concerto in D major.
