A Pen-Y-Cae scout is fundraising to go on the trip of a lifetime for the World Scout Jamboree in South Korea.
Daisy White is taking on an epic sponsored walk from Moel Famau back to Rhosllanerchrugog this February to help raise the £3,495 it will cost to get her to Seoul.
The Pen-Y-Cae Explorers / Scouts group member was selected to represent the UK at the event but is not allowed to be gifted money for her trip, so is having to fundraise despite being in the middle of her GCSE’s.
Daisy said: “I have been lucky enough to be selected to represent Unit 10, Dinas Emrys, in the 2023 World Scout Jamboree, an event which occurs only every four years. I have been “Scouting” for a very long time and am honoured to have been selected as the single representative from our Unit of 36 members.”
The lengthy selection process for the jamboree required Daisy to do a written application, an interview day, and creating a 40-60 second video explaining why she wanted to participate.
This summer, over 40,000 Scouts from all around the globe will gather for the 25th World Scout Jamboree, which only happens once every four years. It will last three weeks and this year will mark the 100th anniversary of the event.

Daisy said that she is keen to learn about people from different countries and cultures from all around the world.
She added: “I have been practicing Taekwondo since I was six and Taekwondo is a Korean martial art – in fact it is their national sport and practiced worldwide by people of all ages and levels. I have achieved a lot in Taekwondo and I am proud to be a 2nd Dan black belt.
“Because this is so dear to me, it would be a fantastic experience to be able to go to Korea to see the birthplace of Taekwondo, to explore the country where General Choi Hong-hi came from, and possibly get a photograph doing a move there to show my instructor.”
Any sponsorships are greatly appreciated and can be made through the GoFundMe page here.
She can also be sponsored directly by contacting the Scout group’s Communications Manager at streetphotoash@gmail.com.
The scout has already been working hard to raise funds, having done car boot sales, bag packing, car washes, raffles and ‘legal’ busking.
The 20 mile walk, which takes place on February 4, will help her reach her goal. It will take her through the Welsh countryside from Loggerheads Park, at the foot of Moel Famau, to the finish location at Rhosllanerchrugog Snooker club where refreshments will be laid on by owner Paul Richards.
