THE Secretary of State for Wales paid a visit to a Wrexham Glyndwr site last week to see first hand the work being done at a 'ground-breaking' centre.

David TC Davies MP was appointed to the role by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in October 2022.

During his time in north Wales, Mr Davies visited Bangor and Denbighshire.

While in the latter, he had a chance to stop by at the St Asaph-based OpTIC Centre, which is run by Wrexham Glyndwr University, to see the work which is being carried out there.

Following his visit, he said: "I was immensely proud to visit Denbighshire and Bangor to see in-person the vast, pioneering work that is taking place.

"First on my busy schedule was a visit to the leading Wrexham Glyndwr University site. Here I saw up close the OpTIC Centre where ground-breaking research is carried out, in addition to meeting scientists and researchers to hear more of their latest projects.

"It’s crucial to note that this facility exists because of the UK Government’s North Wales Growth Deal – a deal which is seeing vast sums of money pouring from the Treasury to this very area for the next 15 years.

"Granted, levelling-up every inch of Wales is an ambitious task, but with this dynamic Government, which possesses a clear vision, it will be achieved.

"The three sites that I visited, though varying in size, are nonetheless of equal importance in my aim to upscale the North Wales economy and help shift the entire Welsh economy into sixth gear."
