Staff and owners at a Buckley pub have been left 'shaken' after two cars caught fire on Saturday evening in what is thought to have been a deliberate blaze.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service say they were called to attend a fire in the car park of the Hope and Anchor Pub, also known as The Trap, around 9.30pm on Saturday, January 14.

The fire is thought to have been started deliberately.

The Leader:

A spokesperson at The Trap, said: "Both staff and owners are shaken.

"There are children that live there and they are distraught and frightened at what they have seen.

"The owners are saddened and shocked that someone would do an attack like this on a Saturday evening whilst open and trading.

"North wales police and fire service were brilliant and attended within five minutes of calling."

Jane Honey, community safety and arson reduction manager, said: “Deliberate fire setting is completely unacceptable –as well as the associated monetary cost, these fires put extra pressure on our resources and can put the lives of the fire crews and the public at risk.

"Whilst crews are busy dealing with these incidents they would not be able to meet what may be a real need for them to attend a life threatening situation elsewhere. Deliberate fire setting is a serious form of anti-social behaviour, and is a criminal offence - we are working alongside North Wales Police to tackle the issue.

"We would encourage anyone with information on arson to call 101, or crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Police have been approached for comment.
