A FUNDRAISER set up by Wrexham fans to help introduce a tifo to the club's home ground has collected over £2,000.

In early December 2022, the Leader reported on a fundraiser which aimed to collect money to have the display put in place at the Racecourse.

A tifo is a a choreographed display in which fans in a sports stadium raise a large banner together or simultaneously hold up signs that together form a large image.

It is something which has become more and more popular, particularly among European clubs who seek to boost their stadium's atmosphere and throw opponents off their game in the process.

Wrexham fans want to see a tifo introduced at the Racecourse to help boost its already phenomenal atmosphere.

A fundraising page for the Wrexham tifo was set up by Rhys Edwards on Sunday, December 11.

Within the space of just a few hours, it had received over 50 donations totalling over £650.

As of Wednesday, January 11, it has now reached £2,199, taking the dream a stepper closer to becoming reality.

A statement on the GoFundMe page reads: "After months of talking with the club, they gave us the go-ahead to allow flags, banners and pre-match displays.

"This can provide the racecourse with a new match day feeling. We now need your help to raise money to purchase these items. Any amount of money would be much appreciated!"

A tifo could be just one of many ways that the Racecourse could be developed in the coming months.

Work to upgrade the Kop and boost the stadium's capacity from 10,000 to 15,500 is now also underway.

It is hoped that that re-development can help international football return to north Wales in the near future.
