STANSTY Road underpass will reopen by 4pm following repairs to a gas leak.

Wales & West Utlities said they were called to reports of the leak in the Stansty Road area of Wrexham on Monday, January 9 and on arrival, the team began work on the gas pipe beneath the road.

Adrian Degg, Wales & West Utilities' gas emergency service manager for Wrexham, said on Tuesday: “In order to repair this leak, and to keep the local community, road users and our colleagues safe while we work, we have closed Stansty Road at its junctions with Crispin Lane and New Road. A diversion route is in place."

Mr Degg reassured residents that the leak was not of safety concerns to residents, he said: “We know work like this can be disruptive and we appreciate the patience and understanding of local residents while we carry out this essential repair.

"The leak is being constantly monitored, does not pose any safety concerns and there is no impact on local gas supplies.”

Rhosddu councillor, Marc Jones, posted on social media on Tuesday morning to say the bridge will be closed "for some time" and urged people to avoid the area.

In a further update issued today, January 11, Mr Degg said: “We have been working in the Stansty Road area of Wrexham to repair a leak on the gas pipe running beneath the road.

“In order to keep the local community, road users and our colleagues safe while we worked, we closed Stansty Road at its junctions with Crispin Lane and New Road.

“Our engineers have worked as safely and as quickly as possible and have fixed the leak.

"We now need to fill in the holes that we have dug and give the new road surface time to set, so will need to keep the road closure in place. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, we aim to fully reopen the road tomorrow (12 January).

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of local residents while we carried out this essential repair.”

Cllr Marc Jones has issued advice that pedestrians are still able to use the bridge.

In a further update at 1.30pm today Wales and West Utilities announced the road would reopen by 4pm today.
