SIGNS written in the Welsh language awaited Wrexham fans ahead of their FA Cup win over Coventry City.

The Reds went on to win 4-3 in what was a historic third round win for the club on Saturday, January 7.

4,500 away supporters witnessed the action unfold at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

And some of those fans will have been given a familiar feeling ahead of the match as Welsh language signs appeared at one particular social club.

The Hen Lane Social Club welcomed Wrexham supporters with signs which were all in Welsh.

One read: "Mae'n bleser gennym groesawu cefnogwyr afc wrecsam. Gobeithio y cewch chi ddiwrnod gwych yma gyda ni yng nghiwb cymdeithasol hen lon a phob lwc am weddill y tymor."

When translated, that means: "It is our pleasure to welcome Wrexham fans. We hope you have a great day here with us at Hen Lon social club and good luck for the rest of the season.”

Rhosddu councillor and Wrexham fan Marc Jones was one of those who attended the social club pre-match.

He said: "Hen Lane social club, Coventry - signs all in Welsh to welcome Wrexham fans. How fantastic."

Commenting underneath his post on Facebook, other Welsh-speaking Wrexham fans hailed the gesture as 'ardderchog' (excellent) and 'gwych' (great).

Hen Lane Social Club itself first opened its doors to the local community in 1936.

It was affectionately known for a long time as ‘little Rhonda’ because many founder members of the club were Welsh miners.
