A FLINTSHIRE mum has expressed concern for her children's welfare as she is faced with excessive damp and mould in her Connah's Quay home.

Mum of three, Kayleigh Paynter has lived in her home since February and says she has been forced to live downstairs with her children and take them from their beds due to the state of her property.

Kayleigh claims she has requested to be moved by Flintshire Council due to fears of her three children who are aged two, four, and eight getting ill.

"I've only been there since February 14 and I've got three young children, one who goes in and out of hospital every month with breathing problems, we think it's really bad asthma but they can't diagnose it yet because she's only two.

The Leader:

"I'm living downstairs with the children; they're not in their beds, and the council won't move me out of the property."

Pictures show large areas of the upstairs of Kayleigh's Connah's Quay home completely capped in mould which the 28-year-old claims has been an issue since she first moved in.

When discussing her attempts to resolve the issues, Kayleigh claims to have been going to the council every day.

"We've been there every single day, me and my mum. They've been out to say I need new roofs and all sorts like that - but it's absolutely freezing, there's water coming down from my ceiling."

When asked if she was concerned for her children's welfare, Kayleigh replied: "I am at the minute yes because we all have bad chests and they've had a lot of time off school as well.

"I just want to be moved, because my children are just getting poorly.

"They're (Flintshire County Council) saying it's suitable for me and my children to be in that property, but [I'm] putting about £150 a week on gas just to keep my children warm.

"I've tried everything and nothing's working. I just want to get out of there because there's too much to be done."

Flintshire’s Chief Officer for Housing and Communities, Vicky Clark, said: “The council was contacted by our tenant regarding condensation and mould in their home.

"We have investigated and treated the affected areas and have advised our tenant what to do to prevent this happening again.

“We will be returning this week to complete some further work to one of the bedrooms.”
