A WARNING over counterfeit money has been issued by a Wrexham District Inspector in his latest crime round-up.

Inspector Luke Hughes regularly issues crime updates for the area to keep residents informed.

His latest round-up comes following a 'steady weekend' for officers in Wrexham.

Inspector Hughes is warning business owners of a case of counterfeit money officers recently dealt with - with a particular focus on £50 notes.

He said: "Please can I urge local retailers to avoid £50 notes if at all possible, if you accept them please check and double-check.

"£450 of counterfeit notes were passed in one transaction last week and I’m sure there are more out there. We have CCTV of the suspect and his partner but it seems the risk to reward is too great and I would suggest it will be attempted again. So please take care."

On top of that, Inspector Hughes also warned of the more serious issue of drink driving.

He added that the force is dealing with 'far more' arrests than they 'would care for' already this month.

Inspector Hughes said: "Intensification around this area will continue to increase this week. Put simply, just don’t do it, do not even think about it!"
