The number of tattoo and piercing shops found in Wrexham has doubled in a two-year window according to data by the Ordnance Survey.
The data, which can be found on the BBC website, has shown that the number of restaurants has also increased in Wrexham between March 2020 and March 2022, but that retail shops are declining.
Using a city centre postcode, this data covers Hope Street, Bank Street, High Street, Queen Street, Henblas Street, Town Hill, Chester Street, Brook Street, Charles Street, and Market Street.
This official data by the Ordnance Survey shows that in March 2020, there were 61 eating and drinking businesses in the Wrexham area, with 13 more in March 2022 leading to an increase of 21%. Overall in Great Britain, during this period, there was a 4% increase in eating and drinking businesses.

The data also shows that there had been 104 retail shops in Wrexham city centre in March 2020, but that has decreased by 8% in March 2022, meaning there were 8 less. On the whole in Great Britain, there was a 3% decrease in retail shops during this same period.
From 2020 to 2022, Wrexham as a county saw 7.7% of banks close, lower than the 8.1% decrease in both Wales and Great Britain on the whole.
Beauty services saw a 2.3% increase in Wrexham, which again was lower than the increase in Wales (4.1%) and Great Britain (5.9%).
While there was a 2.9% increase in fish and chip shops in Wales, and a 2.6% increase in Great Britain, there was no change to the number of fish and chip shops in Wrexham.
There was also no change in public toilets in Wrexham, despite the 3.6% decrease in Wales and the 2.3% decrease in Great Britain.
Wrexham saw a higher number of supermarket chains opening (4.5%) compared to the Welsh average of 2.8% increase and in Great Britain, a 2.5% increase.
A whopping 50% more tattoo and piercing studios opened in the whole of Wrexham during this period, much higher than the 9% increase in Wales and the 8.2% increase in Great Britain.
More data also showed that there was a 17% decrease in cafes in Wrexham, a 25% increase to fast food, 19% increase in pubs and bars but another 25% increase in restaurants. Clothes shops saw a 31% increase.
