This was the moment a dangerous driver from Treuddyn caused a head-on collision in Flintshire.

Gavin Andrew Evans appeared at Mold Crown Court on Thursday, December 15 where he was sentenced to three and a half-years imprisonment.

The 36-year-old of Queen Street, Treuddyn, had earlier been convicted of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by driving whilst disqualified.

During the hearing, the court was told that Evans, who did not hold a valid driving licence or insurance, was driving a Vauxhall Cavalier whilst over twice the legal limit for cannabis, when it collided with a Vauxhall Agila at around 7pm on the B5430 between Rhydtalog and The Moors Inn crossroads on 4 October, 2020.

Evans had two passengers in his car at the time, and as he drove towards Gwynfryn, the vehicle he was driving collided head on with the Vauxhall Agila which was going in the opposite direction.

Following the collision, the driver of the Agila, a 30-year-old woman from Mold, was rushed to hospital in Stoke where it was found she had sustained a catalogue of serious injuries and her condition was described as critical.

Both passengers of the Cavalier, including the driver, Gavin Evans, also sustained significant life-threatening injuries and spent several weeks in hospital.

Following the sentencing, Senior Investigating Officer, Sgt Meurig Jones of the Roads Policing Unit said: “Evans had no consideration for others as he drove dangerously that evening. It is only by sheer luck that this wasn’t a multiple fatal road traffic collision investigation.

The Leader:

“This case highlights the devastating consequences of such a poor standard of driving and the serious, often life-changing repercussions that this can have on other road users.

“Evans is now behind bars facing the consequences of his completely reckless actions.”

In addition to his prison sentence, Evans was also disqualified from driving for six years and nine months.
