Temperatures fell to -9C last night, as recorded at Hawarden Airport weather station, Flintshire. 

Temperatures have been well below freezing for large parts of the week so far, with lows of around -6C and -7C, but last night's drop to -9C marks the coldest night yet. 

According to the Met Office the temperature in Hawarden fell to -9C at 5am, December 15 and remained at -8C until 8am this morning.

The temperature is predicted to increase throughout the day reaching 2C from midday until 2pm before dropping back down to below freezing overnight. 

The weather is then expected to thaw out as we proceed into next week with expected temperatures of up to 13C on Monday, December 19. 

Flintshire and Wrexham residents who are on pension credit, income support and universal credit should have received a £25 'cold weather payment' from the UK Government over the last week. 

The cold weather payment scheme runs from November 1 to March 31 and means that those eligible will receive an automatic payment for every seven-day period in which the average temperatures in their area are below, or forecast to be below, zero degrees.
