King Charles III has paid a visit to St Giles' Parish Church today (Friday, December 9) to mark Wrexham's new city status with a celebratory ceremony.

The King, along with the Queen Consort, arrived through High Street Gates where they were met by the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Clwyd, Lloyd Fitzhugh and welcomed to the church by the wardens of St Giles'.

They were greeted by crowds waving flags and spent some time speaking to those who had waited in the cold.

Their Majesties then attended a short service led by Reverend Jason Bray in the nave of the church, during which His Majesty The King formally marked the conferral of city status on Wrexham and made a short speech.

The King had the opportunity to view the church’s treasures including the First Edition King James Bible and a rare early 14th Century chalice which is still in use before meeting church/ecumenical representatives and local community groups.
