KING Charles III visited The Racecourse Ground to hear all things Wrexham AFC.

His Majesty and The Queen Consort, Camilla, were welcomed on the hallowed turf on Friday.

The King entered the pitch from the tunnel, before meeting Wrexham AFC co-owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, as well as executive director Humphrey Ker.

After a meet and greet, in which Camilla described the takeover of the club as an 'extraordinary story', his Majesty and her Royal Highness met the first team squad.

Speaking to first team captain, Luke Young, the King asked if Saturday's game at Eastleigh is a big game.

"Every game is a big game," Young replied.

The King added: "But you're getting there, towards promotion?"

"Yes, we're getting there - we're working hard," Young said.

After meeting the players, as well as viewing training sessions from the women's and youth teams, his Majesty heard about the redevelopment of the historic Kop stand.

The King and her Royal Highness were presented with artist's impressions by strategic advisor to the Board, Shaun Harvey, of what the stand will look like after redevelopment.

Asked about how it feels to have a visit from the King, Ryan: "What an incredible honour, so excited to welcome the King to the Racecourse Ground -  this historic church that resides in the heart of Wrexham.

"Rob and I both said that we'd do anything to uplift and elevate this community and this club and having the King visit is certainly one way of doing it and we're so excited.

Asked if they think Charles is a fan of the club, Rob said: "I would think so, we hope he's a fan, and if not we'll make him a fan. I think any time you step onto this pitch it's hard not to be a fan.

On the big plans for the Kop, Ryan added: "It's not even a renovation it's a complete reimagination of it. It will mean so much to the club and the community of Wrexham."

The Holywood duo were also asked their thoughts on another famous duo from across the pond with regards to the Meghan and Harry documentary, to which Ryan replied: "I've not seen it" and Rob said: "I've never heard of it."

He added: "As a Canadian I'm not steeped in the culture as one who grew up in the UK.

"I imagine you guys haven't seen all 19 seasons of CBC's The Beachcombers, it was a great show they should bring it back."

The Wrexham AFC owners said they would giving "a little something" as a gift to Their Majesties - maybe some Aviation Gin?

"I don't know about that," said Ryan. "I don't want to compete with the Royal Gin, there may be a conflict of interests.

Rob said: "At the very least we have a very nice handwritten note to give him, but my handwriting is terrible!"
