A NEW scheme has been launched by Wrexham's Scouts to help its members with the cost-of-living crisis.
In a recent meeting, Scout trustees devised a way to help members of their community.
Each of the 16 Scout groups in Wrexham are being given camping kits consisting of rucksacks, sleeping bags, roll mats and torches.
They are being paid for by funds remaining from COVID grants from Wrexham Council together with reserves held in case of emergencies like the current crisis.
Families can also apply for financial support from a ‘Quiet Fund’ set up from donations from a former Scout who has since moved away from the area but fondly remembers his time in Wrexham Scouts. This can be used to help with the costs of things like camping trips or even towards subscriptions.

Nicola Morris, chair of the Trustee Board for Wrexham Scouts said: "The trustees fully support the efforts made by our incredible volunteers to provide opportunities for young people in the area.
"Being concerned that ongoing increased costs may mean that parents have to take hard choices, we have been reviewing what we can do to ensure that no one is left out and that our members can continue to take part.
"We were delighted to be able to provide sets of personal camping equipment to each group which we look forward to seeing in use.”
The volunteer led organisation for girls and boys aged four to twenty-four has over 700 members across Wrexham and is already one of the best value for money clubs for young people with sessions typically costing under £3 a week.
