THE BROTHER of much-loved Jamie Wynne is organising a 12-hour football event in his memory.

The 28-year-old, from Connah's Quay, died tragically in September.

He was well-known in the area, having both played and coached at Connah's Quay Nomads FC, with tributes pouring in following his death.

Jamie is described as being a "sensational" son, uncle and brother - as well as an "incredibly talented footballer" and a "genuinely loveable lad and great man".

A further testament to his character is that hundreds of people attended his funeral

And this Sunday, a 12-hour football marathon event will be held in his memory at Deeside Leisure Centre.

The Leader:

The event is being organised by Jamie's brother, Ben, and will see a number of teams consisting of Jamie's former teammates, family and friends playing in hourly slots from 6am until 6pm.

A fundraising page has also been set up for the event looking to raise £3,000 for charity, and there is also a raffle with over 70 prizes to be won. To donate to the JustGiving page, please visit https://bit.ly/3Bmh4Zz

The event will result in a plaque in memory of Jamie being placed on the 3G pitches at the leisure centre.

Amongst the teams involved are Nelson FC and Connah's Quay Town FC (two of Jamie's former clubs), Connah's Quay High School, former Connah's Quay Nomads players and junior teams that Jamie coached.

Ben Wynne said: "I always thought that I'd organise an event like this with Jamie, but never did I expect to be organising one in memory of him.

"It's very overwhelming but also very fitting, there's players coming down who Jamie played with and against, players he coached. It's going to be a nice day to get everyone together."

Ben added: "Please donate whatever you can. Nothing too big or too small - it is greatly appreciated.

"I am overwhelmed by the generosity of people who have donated such fantastic raffle prizes and those who have bought a ticket. The winners of the 70+ prizes will be revealed in a live draw in due course. Thank you so much."
