A TEACHER is taking on a mammoth 5k-a-day fundraiser for two children who are battling leukaemia.
Dyfan Jarvis, a teacher and head of year at Connah's Quay High School, will be running 5km a day in February to raise money for 14-year-old Evan Gaine and seven-year-old Seirian Richards.
He has launched a fundraising page which can be viewed at https://bit.ly/3PgfNJv and has so far raised over £500.
Both have recently been diagnosed with leukaemia. Evan, who attends Connah's Quay High School, was last month diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) - a rare and aggressive form of the disease. He was transferred to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and is undergoing an intense course of chemotherapy treatment over the next six months.
A separate fundraiser for Evan's family has so far raised over £11,000.
Seirian, who attends Ysgol ID Hooson in Rhos, Wrexham, was also diagnosed with leukaemia and transferred to Alder Hey Hospital.
Dyfan, who last year ran a half marathon in aid of Aria Hodgkiss and her battle with a brain tumour, said: "These two local children need your support, Evan, 14 who is a pupil at Connah’s Quay High School where I work and Seirian, 7 who is a friend of my daughter Elsi at Ysgol ID Hooson, they have both recently been diagnosed with leaukemia.
"As you can imagine, this has been a real shock and difficult time for both families. To help and support both families, I will be running 5k a day in February 2023 and aiming to do each 5k in under 27 minutes.
"On the last day of February I will finish off by running a 10k up Rhos mountain."
He added: "I understand times are hard for many currently, if you could please help me raise as much as possible through these extremely difficult times for these families, myself and their families will be so, so grateful."
