Improvements are set to be made on a roundabout in Wrexham following a number of 'near misses'.

Gresford Councillor Jeremy Kent met last week with Wrexham Council to discuss residents' concerns over Gresford Roundabout.

The busy roundabout links Gresford, the industrial estate, the city centre, Pandy, and the A483 and while there hasn't been a high number of incidents, Kent said there had been 'numerous near misses'.

Following the discussions between Cllr Kent and the council, it was agreed that something needed to be done.

Improvements will include the addition of location markings on the road, which will allow people to get into the right lane for their destination.

Cllr Kent said: "I attended a meeting with highways officers at Wrexham County Borough Council where I shared people’s concerns over Gresford Roundabout.

"Although thankfully there have been few incidents, there have been numerous near misses and we all agree something needs to be done.

"We talked over the issues of each entry and exit from the roundabout and what markings may improve the situation. I was pleased with the progress we made.

"Detailed plans will now be drawn up, which will then have to go through a legal process before the work can be done."

There is no timeline for when work will begin as the legal process and design stage will need to be completed.

While road markings will be introduced, it is not possible for road signs or overhead gantries, both on a budget and placement issues perspective.

Cllr Kent acknowledged that while the improvements may not please everyone, they will increase safety.

He added: "Everyone that emails me has a different opinion on what needs to be done, so when the work is done, some may still claim it is wrong. There will not be a solution that everyone is happy with. But the solution proposed looks like it will increase safety and will be under review.

"Sadly you can’t plan for those that just do the wrong thing and don’t drive as they should.

"My thanks to all who have pushed for this to be addressed, it has taken its time to get this far and I will keep pushing for a resolution as soon as possible."
