"Here are some key safety messages if you're attending any Christmas markets this year:

"Prepare! If you are driving, plan where to park and the routes to and from the market in advance. Bring spare change with you in case there are parking fees.

"Markets can get busy - if you're travelling as a family or group, arrange a place to meet if you get separated.

"Keep your belongings safe. It's easier for thieves to steal things like purses & phones if they've visible. Keep them close in zipped bags or pockets.

"Beware of traffic. There may be roads closed around Christmas markets but some won't be. Remember to watch out and wear something bright if you're walking around darker areas.

"Be patient, be kind. Christmas events can become crowded. Remember to be patient as it might take you longer to get where you're going with more people in the area.

"Wrap up! The temperatures are set to drop over the next few weeks so make sure you bring something warm with you.

"Some of your local officers will be around to make sure everyone is staying safe. Don't be alarmed, come and say hi!"
