A WREXHAM man has been ordered not to speak to his mother for two years by a court.

Jayden Daniels, of Glaslyn in Plas Madoc, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old admitted harassment without violence, in that earlier this year he sent aggressive messages and voicemails to Ann Wilson.

Rhian Jackson said the victim is the defendant's mother and was 52 at the time of the offences.

She contacted police last year to tell them she'd been contacted by the defendant and the contact had been unwanted.

He was asked not to continue with the contact, but he ignored the request.

On April 16 this year, she received a Facebook message from the defendant's girlfriend asking for £20 she thought she was owed.

Ms Wilson believed it was her son instigating the contact, and soon after she received voicemails full of abuse from him.

He told her she'd "best make payment or he'd make a phone call," which she took as a threat.

Ms Jackson said the conduct caused Ms Wilson sleeping problems and anxiety.

"She didn't want to see him again and she doesn't trust him," she added, telling the court the victim just wanted "a quiet life."

The defendant had 15 previous convictions for 19 offences, the most recent of which was affray and possession of a blade which landed him in jail for 14 months in 2018.

Emma Simoes, defending, told the court: "He says at the time of the offence, he was in a very bad place.

"He was homeless, his wife was pregnant, they had no food - no abode.

"He was seeking to reclaim some money his mother had borrowed, and he understands the way he dealt with matters was unacceptable."

She explained her client had been diagnosed with autism, ADHD and emotionally unstable personality disorder, for which he is now being medicated.

"He describes it as having a breakdown when the offence was committed," she added.

The Leader:

District Judge Gwyn Jones described the offence as "unpleasant," telling the defendant: "The fact you contacted her in this way and in view of her own vulnerabilities, you caused a significant degree of upset and trauma for her."

He handed down a £200 fine and ordered the defendant to pay £85 costs, as well as a £34 victim surcharge.

Daniels was also made the subject of a two-year restraining order prohibiting him from contacting or approaching his mother by any means, including social media.
