A WREXHAM footballing star says his dream is 'coming true' as he prepares to represent Wales at the 2022 World Cup.

21-year-old Neco Williams is from Cefn Mawr and is a former pupil of Ysgol Rhiwabon.

Having previously played for Liverpool, the full-back now plays for fellow Premier League side Nottingham Forest.

But it is perhaps his journey with Wales that has really caught the eye the most and, at the end of this month, he will be donning the red jersey on the grandest stage of them all in Qatar.

Earlier this week, Williams was named as a member of Rob Page's 26-man squad who will face USA, Iran and old foes England in Group B.

Wales' first World Cup appearance since 1958 will come against USA on Monday, November 21.

And Williams, who has earned 23 caps for Wales so far, will no doubt play a huge role in that Cymru side.

Looking ahead to the tournament, Williams took to Twitter to write: "What was once a little lads dream, now coming true proud to be selected to play at the World Cup for my country."

The Tweet was accompanied by a brilliant picture of him as a child looking into the mirror at his future self dressed up in a Wales kit.

This is however, not the first time Williams will have visited Qatar.

In an interview with the Leader back in June, his dad Lee revealed that the family had previously visited the country when Neco was playing for the Under 12's side at Liverpool.
