Flintshire Theatr Clwyd is set to welcome a one-man show entitled 'Fake News' later this month.

Osman Baig is a former television journalist from Bradford who studied at City University in London and spent time working in London newsrooms before turning to playwriting.

The idea for his self written and produced play was born in 2018 from the advent of the term 'Fake News' used by former American president Donald Trump.

The Leader:

During his time as President of the United States, Mr Trump discredited news organisations such as CNN, a place where Osman worked at the time.

The play is set in a newsroom in which Osman's character, a budding journalist, stumbles on an earth-shattering story and decides to click publish.

However, in a tale of misfortune the story is untrue.

Whilst the core narrative of the play remains the same, Osman draws on the latest headlines and stories of the day to allow the audience to relate.

Utilising his own experiences and knowledge of newsrooms Osman believes this play offers an accurate insight into the world of a journalist.

He said: "There are a lot of misconceptions about journalists and newsrooms therefore I have tried to create something authentic that comes from a place of truth."

He added: "We live in the age of information where if you have internet you have a connection to the news."

Osman is excited to perform at Theatr Clwyd and share his play with audiences of North Wales.

The Leader:

He said: "Although it is a one man show there is a communcation with the audience and I feel there are points that the audience will be able to relate to."

The play is currently on tour at a number of venues across the UK having previously sold out at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe and at the 900 seater Bridge Theatre in London.

Osman is hoping to employ his television knowledge and develop the play into a tv or film feature in the future.

The play is set to run on the Theatr Mix stage in Theatr Clwyd on Friday, November 25 and Saturday November 26 at 7.45pm.
