A RHOS foodbank will be held this weekend to help those who may be struggling in the community with the cost-of-living crisis.

Gardden Road Community Centre in Rhos will be hosting the foodbank from 2pm to 3pm on Saturday (November 5).

Run by volunteers, all food is purchased the day before or the same day as the foodbank, to ensure everything has good dates.

Cllr David Maddocks has set up the foodbank as a concerned member of the community.

The councillor announced the foodbank would be going ahead on Facebook where he said: “We have received a generous donation off Lyan packaging to do more food banks in our community.

“While serving as Pant Ward Councillor l organised several food banks at Gardden Road Community Centre. With the increasing cost of energy, fuel and other household bills, many more people are finding it difficult to manage.

"l have taken it upon myself to open another food bank on Saturday 5th Nov at Gardden Road Community Centre 2 till 3pm.

“I am doing this as a member of this community for the benefit of the community without any affiliation to any of the current councillors.

“New items will be purchased on the day so everything has excellent dates on.

“If anyone needs help please just turn up and I'll be glad to help you. Also, deliveries will be done for people who struggle to get down to the centre, just PM me.”

The foodbank has now been running for over two years, having started at the beginning of the pandemic, and it was done once a week.

After that it was once a month, and now it's every few months.

Cllr Maddocks said they have had donations off many companies and individuals in the past which was a great help and that he can't thank them enough.

Those who have donated include:

  • Kellogg's
  • Lyan packaging
  • Muller dairy
  • Heinz
  • Morrisons
  • Crown cars
  • Yellow cars
  • Price's dairy
  • Spar
  • Rhosllanerchrugog community council

Anyone can still contribute to this, and it all goes towards helping families during these difficult times.
