AN ENERGY company has apologised after its contractor failed to remove temporary lights at a busy junction after finishing roadworks.

Wales & Wales Utilities conducted works on Wyndham Drive, just off the A541 Wrexham Road, in Cefn-y-Bedd over the weekend.

As a result of the work, which was to resurface the road after an upgrade to the gas network, the A541 near the railway bridge was subject to temporary lights.

After the work finised work on Saturday (October 29), the company's contractor failed to remove the temporary lights - meaning they were left in place throughout Sunday and causing motorists unnecessary delays. They were finally removed on Monday.

Wales & West Utilities street works and reinstatement manager for Wrexham, Mark Green said: “We’ve been working in the Wyndham Drive area of Wrexham to resurface the road after working to upgrade the gas network.

"This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.

“Our work to resurface the road began on Saturday (morning and was completed that afternoon. We instructed the traffic management team to remove the lights by 3pm that day. However, the contractors did not remove the lights until Monday afternoon (October 31)."

Mr Green added: “We apologise for any disruption or frustration local people may have felt whilst the lights were in operation. We are speaking with our traffic management contractors and will investigate why the lights were not removed when we requested and will work to ensure this does not happen again.

“Again, we would like to apologise for any unnecessary inconvenience this may have caused local road users.”
