Wrexham AFC has issued a warning to fans regarding counterfeit merchandise.

The club has seen a huge rise in demand since the takeover of the Hollywood duo Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.

However, due to the surge in demand, the club says it has seen a rise in items being resold for huge profits as well as counterfeit goods.

A Wrexham AFC spokesperson said: "There are not too many downsides to the increased interest in the club, however, over recent weeks we have seen genuine Wrexham merchandise being offered for sale at multiples of the original sale price and more concerningly, an increase in ‘unofficial’ goods for sale bearing the club crest.

"Our message is clear, there is only one place to purchase official Wrexham AFC merchandise and that is via the club, either in person at the Racecourse Ground shop or on-line.

"While there is nothing illegal with the selling of genuine Wrexham merchandise by those individuals who bought the items in the first place, not everyone can afford the prices that have been sought.

"We have 5,100 home and away match shirts arriving before Christmas that will be available from £37.50, so the opportunity to own a shirt, will be available again soon. Once these have gone, there will be no more and we will be limiting the numbers that individuals can buy, so as not to create a secondary market for people to exploit.

"New and replacement stock lines are being introduced weekly, so please keep checking for availability.

"While the adage remains true ‘that if the counterfeiters are not interested you don’t own any brand value’ it is an issue that needs addressing. As such the club and our lawyers in both the UK and US have commenced proceedings to stop this activity, to avoid fans mistakenly thinking their purchase is benefitting the club or from an official source.

"The club’s retail operation has struggled to keep up with the demand, through no lack of effort, but we appreciate that we need to be better and expand the range of products available for fans to purchase. More lines will be arriving soon to meet the increased interest from both home and abroad."
