PLANS to turn a pub into apartments have been deferred amid concerns over available parking spaces.

A proposal to convert the Hare and Hounds pub, on the High Street in Connah's Quay, into 11 apartments had been recommended for approval by Flintshire Council's planning officers.

But at the authority's planning committee meeting on Wednesday (October 26), a decision on the scheme was deferred until a later date.

Ahead of the meeting, Connah's Quay councillor, Bernie Attridge, had strongly objected to the plans - citing serious highway and parking concerns, anti-social behaviour risks and excessive numbers of flats in the area as the reasons.

However, during the meeting, Councillor Attridge changed his stance on the proposal - saying he is happy for it to be granted if the developer can find further available parking spaces at the site.

The current plans include provision for six car parking spaces, but Cllr Attridge said there is scope for a further six on a derelict site behind the pub.

He called for a deferral to allow the developer to consider utilising this area for further parking.

Cllr Attridge also said that Brown's Furniture, which is based next door to the pub, claims that it hasn't been consulted on the matter, and also raised concerns over available parking. Chief planning officer, Andrew Farrow, said he had been informed that notification letters had been delivered to the company, and nearby residents.

A vote on whether to defer the application won by seven votes to six.

It will now be considered at a later date.
