A WREXHAM food producer has revealed their shock after receiving a handwritten letter from former Prime Minister, Gordon Brown.

Happy Hedgehogs Food is an award-winning Welsh food producer in Wrexham who specialise in creating fruit flavoured vinegars, and were delighted to receive a glowing review from non-other than Gordon Brown.

The ex-leader of the Labour party was gifted a bottle of strawberry balsamic by Wales First Minister Mark Drakeford (who is an already established fan of Happy Hedgehog Foods) on a recent visit to Scotland which resulted in owner, Apra Ames Roberts getting a shock when receiving a personal letter commending her product.

Apra said: “To be honest, when I opened it, I didn’t take it in at first, then when it hit, I couldn’t help but smile.

“The fact that he took the time to personally write to tell me how bowled over he was with the flavour was amazing, regardless of politics.”

Happy Hedgehog Foods are one of only ten food producers in Wales to receive the coveted three-star commended award in the 2021 great taste awards with their strawberry balsamic.

Apra’s popularity is now ever-growing following appearances showcasing her cooking live on BBC and Sky in addition to appearing at the Llangollen Food Festival, on top of a string of publications, entitled 'The History of Spice in a Nutmeg' with another cook book due next year.
