PLANS for the extension of a gypsy and traveller site in Flintshire look set to be approved.
The proposal is for an additional nine static caravan pitches at an existing gypsy traveller site at Magazine Lane in Ewloe. The site is currently home to five static caravan pitches, and the additional pitches would take the total to 14.
Flintshire Council's planning officers have recommended the scheme for approval ahead of next week's planning committee meeting, subject to it meeting the following conditions:
- No more than 14 pitches on the site and on each of the 14 pitches no more than two caravans, only one of which shall be static.
- The site shall not be occupied by any persons other than gypsies and travellers as defined in the Housing (Wales) Act 2014.
- Touring caravans not to be used as overnight sleeping accommodation.
- No vehicle over 3.5 tonnes to be parked or stored on site.
- No commercial activities shall take place on the land, including the storage of materials.
- Details of proposed means of disposal of foul drainage.

Planning officer, Alison Dean, said in a report on the application: "The policy context for this site is fully supportive of the development proposed. The need for the pitches represented by this application is shown in theGypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment and for this reason the site has been allocated within the emerging Local Development Plan as the remodeling of an existing residential Gypsy site.
"The proposal represents the modest intensification of an established site and is in accordance with the douncil’s policies regarding this type of development, as well as national planning guidance."
