A CAR and "significantly sentimental" items of jewellery were stolen during a burglary at a Wrexham home.

The incident on Erlas Park Road happened between 7pm and 8pm on Thursday (October 20).

Inspector Luke Hughes, of the Wrexham City policing team, said: "We had a long overdue domestic burglary. Not a shed or a garage, but someone’s house. A direct intrusion into their personal life, their space and the one place they should feel absolutely safe no matter what.

"Sadly, when the victims left the property for a few hours, somebody took the opportunity to break in using force and steal not only their vehicle, but also significantly sentimental items of jewellery, which are irreplaceable."

The vehicle, a Toyota Aygo, has been recovered in Pentre Gwyn.

Inspector Hughes said: "Both the vehicle and the premises will be subject to detailed forensic investigation this morning and officers will be trawling CCTV.

"Can I ask if you live in the area of Erlas Park, or Pentre Gwyn, to please review your CCTV for anything that could be linked to this matter. You are looking for any suspicious activity at/around this time, such as individuals on foot, bike etc."

He is urging people to "make the jewellery too hot to handle" and report any information via the North Wales Police website or via the control room on 101.

Inspector Hughes added: "Sadly, there is every indication the offenders are local and that makes the situation all that more frustrating.

"More broadly, please continue to be vigilant. This offence was statistically long overdue. You have been doing a great job and its clear we are focusing our disruption on the right people but let's double our efforts to prevent any further offences."
