THE ARREST of an alleged organised crime group was amongst the incidents dealt with by police in Wrexham in the last 24 hours.

In his daily update, Inspector Luke Hughes said officers responded to reports of shoplifting at Plas Coch retail park.

He said: "Trolley with over £500 products attempted to be pushed out. OCG (organised crime group) from the Midlands – detained by staff and arrested.

"Follow up ongoing as this is now a national crime trend which is causing significant losses in the retail sector. I’m grateful for the staff for being so proactive."

A timeline of incidents dealt with by the Wrexham City policing team in the last 24 hours is as follows:

5.25pm – Shoplifting on Ruthin Road. Ink cartridges to the value of £1,200 are reported to have been stolen. Similar descriptions to those involved in the alleged Plas Coch offence.

Inspector Hughes said: "I’ll treat as linked until I know otherwise. These will be sold online – often via online auction sites. If you think you’re getting a bargain, it’s most likely stolen goods. Cosmetics, perfume and small electricals also sold this way."

8.30pm – Youths cause damage to Halloween decorations on Ernest Parry Road.

Inspector Hughes said: "Very sad when people make an effort and its clearly something to be enjoyed by passers-by. Selfish behaviour."

Inspector Hughes said: "I have pushed for a charge decision to be made today. The officer is fine and remained on duty, but they should not have to deal with such behaviour."
