POLICE are warning of ATM 'skimming' device fraud after recent incidents in Wrexham.
Inspector Luke Hughes, of North Wales Police's Wrexham City team, said two fraud offences occurred over the weekend.
He said it seems that a device may have been placed on an ATM at a store on the Border Retail Park. It appears to have retained at least two cards, which have since been used in fraudulent transactions.
Skimming involves the installation of a device on an ATM that secretly records bank account data when the user installs their card into the machine.
Inspector Hughes said: "I can’t recall the last time we had a local skimming device on any ATM, but it’s probably wise that you always cover your pin number when using an ATM and pay attention for any obvious modifications to the machine.
"I know not easy, and these devices can be very professional, so just take a few seconds to check. I have attached a few examples of what to look out for."
